Denver’s Original Rock Choir Expands Across Metropolitan Denver and into Pacific Northwest

(Denver, August 21, 2025) — Denver-based non-audition community rock choir Voices Rock has seen significant expansion across the Denver metropolitan area and into the Pacific Northwest, growing from five choirs to 14 this year alone. By early 2026, the group expects to see over 700 singers take the stage.

At Voices Rock, the only requirement to join is a love of singing. Adults are welcomed of all ages, and the groups work on rock and pop choral arrangements over 10-week sessions before putting on shows with a full rock band. While music is the draw, the group prides itself on community-building, fostering intergenerational connections, and providing access to an extraordinary musical experience that would otherwise be unreachable to many of the participants.

Following the original choir’s success at JCC Denver, locations in Denver’s Capitol Hill, Highlands, and Central Park neighborhoods have boomed since the pandemic. Voices Rock expanded into Louisville, Englewood, and Lakewood this spring and will be launching Green Valley Ranch and Littleton choirs in September. A Portland, Oregon, location also kicked off this summer, with choirs in Seattle and Tacoma to come in September and Tucson early next year.

The launch of Voices Rock Portland was a particularly exciting time for the company as it marked the group’s initial expansion outside of Colorado. Eighteen singers from Denver groups flew to Oregon to take part in the festivities as the choir put on its first performance to a packed house in July. The addition of Seattle and Tacoma choirs this fall will help establish Voices Rock in the region – significant because all Voices Rock choirs rehearse the same music on the same schedule, and “choir-hopping” is encouraged among singers in the groups.

“Part of the vision of bringing the choir to all of these new places is that if a singer from a Denver choir happens to be traveling to Seattle, Portland, or Tucson, they could drop into another rehearsal, or even perform at a different location’s show,” Voices Rock founder and artistic director Jill Teas said. “Our Denver groups are well-acquainted with visiting each others’ rehearsals, singing in each others’ shows, and being part of both their ‘home choir’ community and Voices Rock at large. Building these communities is what Voices Rock is really all about.”

The woman-founded and -led company has seen plenty of transformation since its inception in 2014. While the Covid-19 pandemic largely forced the performing arts to come to a halt, Voices Rock was the first Denver choir to transition to Zoom, and the choir eventually went through full sessions outdoors in masks before returning indoors when it was deemed safe. VR2, Voices Rock’s children’s choir, was established in 2019 to fill the gap created by funding cuts for school arts programs, providing a safe and welcoming singing environment for students from third through eighth grade. Voices Rock celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2024 with a special performance at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts, and in 2025, performed at Red Rocks Amphitheatre for the third time, with 275 singers on stage.

“We want to make singing accessible to as many people as we can,” Teas said. “That’s why we’ve always been non-audition, and we encourage adults to join whether they are seasoned vocalists or beginners who can’t read music. People need community, they need judgment-free spaces and they need to express themselves through music. This is an incredibly uplifting environment, and I encourage anyone who loves to sing to check it out!”
