Reasons to join Voices Rock Portland:
- Singing pop and rock hits you know and love in a choral setting is good for the mind, body and soul
- Make new friends in your community (this is more than a choir — at Voices Rock we value social time and getting to know each other outside of rehearsal)
- You’ll love the music. While we never reveal it before the first rehearsal, just know there’s something for everyone!

Get to Know Your Portland Team: Cathy Bleecker & Peter Freeman
Cathy Bleecker is a lifelong choral conductor, music educator, and musical theatre director who has spent her career working with singers of all ages in a wide range of settings. With advanced degrees in the art of choral conducting, she is a sought-after guest adjudicator and clinician, known for a joy-filled approach to rehearsing that balances focus, hard work, and fun — making the process both rewarding and full of laughter.
Drawing on a background that includes pop, vocal jazz, musical theatre, and traditional choral music, Cathy facilitates ensembles where singers are fully engaged in the rehearsal process and excited to share what they’ve built together. Her work emphasizes clear communication, active participation, and creating musical spaces where people feel supported, challenged, and energized by singing together.
Peter Freeman is a pianist, composer, and choir director in Portland, Oregon. He loves the way choir lifts people up and is thrilled to amplify that power with his first love, the piano. In addition to teaching piano, voice, and generally hyping up musicians all over town, he directs and has founded several community choirs in the area. He recently received a master’s degree in choral conducting from Portland State University and is a regular on the dance floor.
