Sing with us this summer
Voices Rock, together with the Up with People Foundation, is launching a special summer program: Voices Rock Presents: The Music of Up with People.
This unique choir will bring Voices Rock singers, UWP alumni, and community members together to celebrate the music and message of Up with People. After several weeks of rehearsals, the choir will perform live during Up with People Weekend in Denver this June.
If you love the energy of singing in a big, powerful choir, this will be a special experience.
The Voices Rock + Up with People Connection
Our founder Jill Teas, along with choir directors Brian Shimamoto and Kent Lemburg, all traveled with Up with People earlier in their lives. Performing together, sharing music across cultures, and building community through song was a life-changing experience, and it helped inspire the creation of Voices Rock.
Today, that connection continues. Many Up with People alumni sing in our choirs, and the same spirit of music, connection, and bringing people together remains at the heart of the Voices Rock community.
What Is Up with People?
Up with People is an international music and leadership program founded in 1965. For nearly six decades, young people from around the world traveled together performing high-energy shows and sharing a message of hope and understanding. Each cast typically included students from 25–30 countries who lived with host families and participated in community service projects in every community they visited. While the program is no longer active, the Up with People Foundation continues its legacy by supporting programs and events that keep the spirit of UWP alive.
